What does a backhoe cost per day in Malaysia?

For 2026, Klang Valley market rates start at RM500 a day for a mini backhoe, RM580 for a standard machine such as a JCB or Case 580, and RM670 for a large JD410 or Case 590 class machine. These rates include a certified operator — this is not bare machine hire.

• Mini backhoe — RM500/day, RM2,500/week, RM7,000/month. Digs 6–8 feet.
• Standard backhoe — RM580/day, RM3,200/week, RM9,500/month. 60–90 HP, digs 12–14 feet.
• Large backhoe — RM670/day, RM4,020/week, RM17,420/month. 91–105 HP, digs 14–15 feet.

Why the weekly rate usually wins

A week on a standard backhoe works out to roughly RM457 a day against the RM580 daily rate. If your earthworks will run past two days, ask for the weekly rate first — on small projects the gap is significant.

What the price should already cover

A complete quote covers the operator, fuel and return delivery within the coverage area. If those three are not spelled out, that is usually where extra charges appear later.

Questions to ask before you agree

• How many working hours count as one rental day?
• Is site delivery charged one way or both ways?
• If rain stops work, is the day still charged in full?

What this means for your project

For a one to three day job, stay on the daily rate and make sure the site is genuinely ready before the machine arrives. From six days upward the RM3,200 weekly rate on a standard backhoe is nearly always cheaper — and it absorbs weather delays.

When you ask for a quote, include the start date, expected number of days and the site location. Without those three, any price you are given is a rough guess that can move once the machine is on site.
