Five costs people miss
1. Two-way mobilisation
Some quotes count only delivery in. Ask whether collection is included too.
2. Standby days
If the machine arrives and the site is not ready, the day is still charged. Confirm the site is clear the day before.
3. Overtime
A standard rental day has an hour limit. Work past it is overtime, usually at an hourly rate.
4. Special attachments
A breaker for concrete or an auger for post holes is not part of the base hire.
5. Soil disposal
A backhoe digs and loads, but the soil still has to leave. Lorries and the tipping site are a separate cost.
How to avoid all five
Ask for a written quote that names all five items explicitly. If one is missing, ask before the machine moves — not after the invoice lands.
