Cost estimate
Three days on a standard backhoe at RM580 a day puts the machine cost at RM1,740 including the operator. If the work is likely to run six days, the RM3,200 weekly rate beats counting days.
What slows the job down
Three usual causes: ground harder than expected, nowhere to heap the spoil, and no disposal lorry booked at the same time. All three can be planned around.
Stony ground or wet clay
Wet clay sticks to the bucket and slows every cycle. If your site has just had heavy rain, consider postponing a day — usually cheaper than paying for a slow one.
Planning the schedule
Book the machine after the site is cleared, not before. For areas like Semenyih or Bangi, same-day delivery can be arranged when booked before noon.
Planning a realistic schedule
On a typical terrace lot, budget three to four days for levelling, footings and trenching in dry ground. Add a buffer day in the wet season — cheaper than extending a daily hire at short notice.
Book the disposal lorry at the same time as the machine if soil has to leave. A backhoe loads in minutes, but waiting on lorries can eat an entire afternoon.
